One eyed Buff Cocker Spaniel (with a red bandana)

My social work takes me on many streets in the county. Recently, on my way to see one of my families, I noticed a beautiful buff colored cocker spaniel dodging in and out of driveways and the street. Being a cocker spaniel enthusiast, I naturally pulled my car over and got out to inspect his collar and find out if he was lost. As I approached him, I noticed that he was a soft coated cocker, and had great form. Perfectly docked tail. Beautiful silky fur. He wore a red bandana and had tags, so I knew he belonged to someone. As I cautiously approached, I noticed that he had one eye missing. The other eye was glazed over from cataracts. He was blind! I watched as he ran in and out of driveways...bumping into a motorcycle, the bumper of a truck, a garbage can. My heart raced. What should I do? He couldn't see me! All I could do was call him, he didn't respond. Was he deaf too? My heart ached for this beautiful soul of a dog, trying to either find his way home or be on a journey of his own free will. While I stood frozen on the sidewalk, this wandering dog went up to a house and sat on the front porch. I jiggled my keys, and his ears perked up. He could hear and possibly thought that someone was going to let him in the house! Discouraged and distraught, I looked around and saw someone outside working in their yard in the neighborhood. I approached her and asked if she knew who the dog belonged to. As fate would have it, he was sitting on his own front porch. To my dismay, I learned that the owners of this gorgeous dog, on a daily basis, lock him out of the house to roam the streets and find his way back. I was heartbroken and for a moment thought about dog napping. The neighbor assured me that she would approach the neighbor and tell them that the dog was on the street. Responsible pet owners? I think not.
